Every biochar conversation starts with the same three questions: what is your feedstock, what do you want the carbon to do, and what scale are you working at.

Answer those and a sensible discussion is possible immediately. Without them, any number quoted is a guess. Feedstock sets the yield, the char quality and the heat balance; the intended end use decides whether the project is optimised for soil performance, industrial function or carbon permanence; and scale determines whether the right answer is a fixed plant or a mobile unit.

Who gets in touch

Agricultural processors and mills holding husk, shell or straw residues. Forestry and wood-products operations with bark and sawdust. Utilities and independent power producers looking at base-load renewable generation with a carbon product attached. Project developers assembling carbon dioxide removal supply. And buyers who simply want consistent biochar in volume.

What we can show you

Klean operates a 1 MW biochar power plant in Japan with Chubu Electric Power, Seiko Epson and the Toyama Research Institute, running since 2012 — roughly 1,000 tonnes of biochar a year, base-load green electricity for about 1,000 homes, and more than 6,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent offset annually. Japanese field trials have recorded crop yield increases of 10 to 30 percent. A 40 tonne-per-day mobile biomass pyrolysis retort, MORPPS, has started operations in Vancouver.

How an enquiry proceeds

A short exchange establishes feedstock, volume, location and objective. If there is a project, the next step is a feasibility study covering mass and energy balance, product yields, offtake and capital cost. From there Klean can carry the work through design, engineering and turn-key delivery.

If you are early

An enquiry does not need a finished business case. A clear statement of the problem — a residue you are paying to dispose of, a carbon commitment you need to meet, a soil or supply issue you want solved — is enough to begin. Detailed performance data and project economics follow under NDA.
